The Lost Dutchman is an old Arizona legend. Jacob Waltz , a German Prospector came to Arizona in the 1860s. He discovered a rich body of gold somewhere in the Superstition Wilderness. News ran rampant in Phoenix. He was nick named “the dutchman”. People tried to follow him to his riches but, he was able to lose them. While on his death bed the location of the mine was given to Julia Thomas, his caretaker and to his friend Hermann Petrasche. They were unable to follow his crude map. So the mine has been lost ever since people to this day are still searching for his mine.
